Cockfosters Road - 9 Flats
Gallus were appointed to review the planning permission for a new build block of luxury flats in North London.
Given a very tight programme to start on site, the client needed an architect who could make subtle but effective improvements, working within the parameters of the existing permission.
We concentrated on efficiencies of space and construction, while drawing out the potenial to create a very special place to help them to realise their vision of a development that is perfectly suited to the nature of a large suburban site.
We redesigned the elevations, which were of a traditional nature and had to remain so. The architecture was therefore designed to reflect the idea of a large house in the countryside, with Georgian proportions. Therefore, the front elevation celebrates the formality of Georgian architecture, while the rear elevation embraces modern architecture to bring light, air and nature into the building
Gallus worked with landscape architects to integrate landscaping towards the road edge. The journey towards the communal garden to the rear has been developed to take you gradually further into the natural environment.
